DLBP attends Heritage in Planning course with Historic England

This month, Rebekah Gibson has enjoyed attending Historic England’s Heritage in Planning course, as part of DLBP’s Continuous Professional Development Programme.

This online course explored principles and practices for the effective management of changes to the historic environment.  This included:

  • identifying different types of heritage assets that can be classified into designated and non-designated assets;

  • understanding the varying levels of protection that heritage assets are afforded through law and policy;

  • exploring how non-designated heritage assets are considered in the determination of planning applications;

  • learning the importance of conserving the setting and significance of heritage assets by promoting development that either preserves or enhances them; and

  • knowing how to best use appropriate expertise and collaborative interdisciplinary approaches to recognise the significance of heritage assets.

With DLBP’s wealth of experience advising on heritage-related matters, Rebekah is looking forward to applying her enhanced knowledge and understanding learned into practice.
